I understand the need to gain grassroots strength, But at the same time I expect that IV core members to do better than arbitrary curt responses directing everyone to state chapter on this forum.
I am sure IV core do better, like for example, well crafted sticky memo explaining the need for state chapters/grassroots strength and dangers of remaining only an internet based group of anonymous members and why agenda of the IV will not be discussed or revealed in this forum. There was one good post explaining this.
Such a professional explanation is required to gain the respect of the newcomer on this forum and his views and at the same time promoting IV objectives.
IV and rest of us need each other to get this huge problem fixed.
actually the need for grassroots strength and chapters has been repeatedly explained. and i mean repeatedly. please see pappu's initial post which continues on previous efforts. as for nebraska, we have actually worked with some folks on staring a chapter. ultimately after providing info and direction we need members to so the work themselves, set up a chapter, collect members, use forum threads to motivate, schedule meetings etc etc
all this sometimes takes time. that effort continues.
i have personally done the explanations on numerous occasions and explained that we are not an internet forum AND used the very words you speak- iv is nothing but you and me. without each one of us there is no iv. you will be surprised at some of the responses this brings.
please take a moment to understand that lots of members show up from time to time asking the same questions and raising the same old issues. that is why we encourage everyone to be involved. being involved with chapters and/or engaging with other iv actions etc does keep a sense of community and is a ready source of information and updates. not that many take the advice and so the message has to be repeated. most of the encouragement is done by active dedicated members not by the core team.
please also take a moment to reflect on the fact that active members of this organization are less than 1% of it's strength on paper. many of the remaining 99% are not "newbies". motivating such reluctant "highly skilled" members and keeping an organization of 25,000 together- and being constantly questioned on "results" (people want to know they will get x by date y BEFORE the participate- and i am quoting this) is a yeoman's task at the best of times for the small group of dedicated volunteers that are working everyday at cost to their jobs and families. at least two iv leaders have separately travel led to DC this week for key meetings. several others have spent the last couple of weeks and weekends in iv meetings, running booths at local events and attending lawmaker meetings locally.
please be constructive in your role, we can use your energy and enthusiasm, but an attitude of engagement is critical rather than asking why iv core is not doing this or that.....

Also on another note Senator Lieberman wrote a piece in investors.com which is pro-skilled worker and pro-H1B.
http://www.investors.com/editorial/editorialcontent.asp?secid=1502&status=article&id=264986175666607
In it he says "When the Senate resumes debating comprehensive immigration reform this week, I will fight to exempt from the cap foreign nationals holding a U.S. graduate degree in any field; a non-U.S. graduate degree in science, technology, engineering or math; or medical-specialty certification based on U.S. training. Taken together, these reforms would deliver much-needed relief and vital human capital to our innovative industries." .
This is a good find. I'm happy that the senators are fighting to remove the cap for masters students. That would make lot of room for the non-ms students.

Regarding your answer for question 3 - when you say "renewal" what does it mean? There is just one application form for I-131, so should I simply fill out the same form regardless of whether the previous AP is current or expired?

i thought a simple majority i.e. >50 would make the bill pass through senate. is that not true?
Nope. Need 60 votes to do anything in Senate and that is why even though the Dems have a so called majority then cant get anything done.

Good to see and hear about the pros and cons of Logiclife's post. Both sides are valid and rightful in their own way...
However there are goals that need to be achieved for this grassroots organization and it is just not viable for just a few dedicated people to achieve it. Is it wrong on their part to appeal/call out for help? By the way this is not for the benefit of just a few people. Whoever comes to this website will be benefited by the outcome of the efforts.
No one is demanding anyone to just volunteer. Logiclife's post might have shown emotion and for members like Ram (with all due respect) it might have seemed unprofessional....but this is not a corporation which is run on a profit/loss basis. It is a people's organization solely to benefit the members. Emotion and dedication are a major part of its survival. I am not a leader but I do my minimum.
1. Contribute financially.
2. Spread awareness among friends and acquaintances in similar position.
I respect all the people who responded because I am sure they might have contributed in some way. For the others, please do more than visit the site for just updates.

I think we can work as a Group on this Issue. I am ready to lead or Join this Group.
We can file in Court if required as a Group to get a greater exposure and success.
Least but not last, the contributions can be very very minimum. We can get more people join this site in less time with this issue.
Requesting IV core team to advise on it.
Thanks
That is exactly what I am thinking. There are laws to protect immigrants from discrimination. I believe this clause was added to the Social Security Act to protect us in situations exactly like this one.
Also, I am glad to have become involved in this as it has led me to great immigration resources like IV, which I would not have known about otherwise.

The most important part of rally is the lawmaker meeting because they decide to bring up the bills and then vote on them.
There are 635 lawmakers: 100 senators + 535 house members. It would be great if we could set up at least 1 meeting with every lawmaker and more meetings with immigration sub committee members.

Actually abolishing the whole H1B thing is theonly way. Actually IV should actively start lobbying against any H1B increase. Then only there is a chance of of corp america supporting any GC reform.
IV should work on highlighting the H1B abuse that is going on, in the media
so that the whole H1B will become so radioactive they will be forced to scale down or reform the H1B.
H1B visa is the main reason for EB problems.
Nice...
"I am in. Now you can shut the freaking door on all those suckers who didn't manage to get in on time..."
No wonder that people start demanding to curb immigration right after getting their green cards.

If you read the postings in this thread itself you would be surprised to see that some consider this as controversial. You are not writing your life off just because you married a H1B visa holder. It also happens that majority of H4 holdes are woman and hence unable to express their views. - a perfect case of lack of visibility.

Here is the response from congressman Eric Paulsen of MN.
Thank you for letting me know of your support for increased immigration.
We are clearly a nation of immigrants, and I support prudent levels of legal immigration into this country.
There are a variety of legislative proposals to reform our current immigration system, which is widely acknowledged to be broken. The House Judiciary Committee, of which I am not a member, will be holding hearings on the initiatives for a comprehensive review.
You can be sure I will keep your views in mind as I review the committee's recommendations and legislation on this issue moves forward.
Thanks again for sharing your concerns, as I appreciate hearing from you. Please let me know whenever I can be of assistance.
Sincerely,
Erik Paulsen
Member of Congress

In my opinion Let's contribute $100 each pay them and get this information. I'm sure there'll be 50 people who would want this information for $100....Atleast I'm sick of seeing Visa Dates predictions and seeing Visa bulletins itself. Atleast we'll know what we are dealing with.

even though I am in EB2..from my personal experience, the kind of IT contracts/jobs/assignments we (most of us) do, I dont think there is anything that an EB2 qualified can do which EB3 cannot do.
I saw threads (this site or elsewhere) where EB2 ppl felt superior and blasted the threads where EB3-EB2 conversions were discussed.
IMHO, I would always say, if it is legal and possible and beneficial, ppl should think of conversion.

Hi Needhelp,
Why don't we do signature collection instead of collecting same letter templates from all people? Do we need to waste this much of paper?
Go Green !
Sorry if i hurt IV member feelings.
Kris
Technical difficulties to implement what you said. Just post on this thread, I will count for you.
It is very important to send a copy to IV, it will be used in making a case during talks with White House and DHS. Please see address in first post of this thread.
I have a dream: IV team carrying at least 10 big boxes full of letters to show during the meeting.

"How long has your case been pending? My case is pending for only one month, not sure if my lawyer and employer will send email for me."
Which case is pending? LC? PERM? ONE MONTHS? Is this a BEC victim?
Frist, sorry for the confusion. I do have a 05/2007 PD at Atlanta PERM center. I came to the country in 1999 for grad school, started working with OPT in 2001, converted to H1 in 2002, laid off in 2002, started working again in 2002 with a new employer, filed labor in 2004 and got stuck in BEC ever since. The employer refused to file PERM, so I had change to a new company in 2006, and had PERM filed in 2007 and got stuck there again. Your are right, I am technically not in BEC, but psychologically I always feel I am in there.
I did not know what was 'disruptive' and 'inappropriate' about what I said. This is a board for BEC victims, so BEC victims are not allowed to express our frustration? I just expressed my depress and my concerns over how much this will retrogress the PD without targeting anyone. When tons of people run in front of our queue and shut us out in cold, we are supposed to 'enjoy the moment' with them? If so, when USCIS said no one can file 485 on July 2nd, why none of the people enjoy the happiness with those who already filed, because that will make their processing time much faster. People said we should feel happy for those who can file, because they now can get EAD/AP for their spouses, as if our spouse do not need EAD/AP. And as a result of this total mess, I don't think we'll have hope in another several years to see the date current.
IV core keeps telling us, BEC is always on their agenda. Really? If they did not even understand our pain and consider our frustration a disruption to people's happiness, how can we expect them to help? I still think IV is a great org, as it's the first such organization to speak out for legal immigrants. But when it comes to BEC victims, I did not see IV changed anything, or intend to change anything.

Question : Why is PERM risky ? I thought that is the only way to get LC now.
I am thinking of porting to EB2 (10 years + MBA) in US.
I agree that porting to EB2 is the best route. But my company was very reluctant to file another labor to port my case to EB2. They thought thur PERM, they may have to hire some applicant if they meet the requirements. The lawyer thinks PERM is risky. I know they are trying to avoid EB2 labor at any cost, though I also know a few friends who had the PERM labor application recently rejected.
Anyway, bottom line for me and others in the same situation is that we are stuck with EB3. And maybe stuck in the rut for a long long time unless something magical happens....
